individual Nutrition counseling

Nutrition counseling sessions are 50 minutes and are individualized to the needs of each client. The initial session includes a detailed nutrition history, assessment and evaluation.  Nutrition recommendations and individualized food plans are provided as needed.  During the coronavirus outbreak, I am conducting these sessions virtually using a Telehealth platform.

Follow-up sessions are usually indicated and may be scheduled weekly, bi-weekly, or as a monthly check-in. These sessions include counseling, cognitive-behavior interventions, meal planning,  and meal support. At this time, these sessions are also done virtually.

Meal Support can be an important part of recovery from an eating disorder.  Eating a meal together can help someone who is struggling to eat enough food.  It is also a very powerful way to learn to eat mindfully and intuitively. Meal support is also done virtually!

On-line Support allows a client to record his or her food intake using an interactive app.  I use Recovery Record to provide on-line support of a client's food intake between nutrition counseling sessions.

Communication and coordination with other health professionals is often a vital part of nutrition counseling.  I value a team approach in the treatment of eating disorders and will facilitate communication with all team members such as psychotherapists and physicians.

Family Nutrition counseling

Children, adolescents, teens and families.  In many situations, the best way to achieve a healthy relationship with food is through family counseling.  I love working with families and helping everyone develop a healthy relationship with food. Parents are part of the solution and are included in most sessions with children and adolescents.

Family counseling can include learning how to feed your children using the Ellyn Satter approach, meal planning for healthy eating,  coaching parents of children with Avoidant-Restrictive Food Intake Disorder and the use of Family-Based Treatment for Anorexia Nervosa in adolescents. These family sessions are also being conducted virtually using a Telehealth platform.

Infant feeding can sometimes be challenging.  Failure to Thrive requires specific nutritional interventions by parents to restore a normal body weight and growth curve.

Eating disorder support group

Persons with eating disorders can be catapulted into recovery when they receive the right treatment and support.  Along with a psychotherapist, I run an eating disorder support group that helps young adults learn to live without their eating disorder. At this time, we are not providing a support group for our clients, but I am providing daily support through Recovery Record.
